A Change Gonna Come

How can one describe what feelings went through the United States of America at 11:00 PM (EST)? 71 Million people watched on TV, hundreds of thousands were standing in the streets of New York, Washington DC and especially in Chicago. I was sitting on my couch, next to my wife and family friends Craig and Katie. This is what we heard:

"Polls are closing in the west coast.....and Barack Obama is now projected to becoming the 44th President of the United States of America!"

We, being African Americans, have been a lot of things in our history. We have been the heads of multi-million dollar companies, we have been Astronauts; even Generals for the United States of America. But now, everything has changed....

My mother and father raised both my sister and I to believe we could be anything we wanted to be. They have supported us and continue to do so. But, as my sister has a daughter, telling her she can do anything she wants means that also now include being the President of the United States.

Tears flowed, laughing ensued and emotions were high; foreign countries were celebrating, calling Barack Obama to congratulate him. Yet as our projected President came to the podium to speak, he showed his reserve. He was cool, calm and direct; he spoke to your heart and uplifted a World.

For those who booed him at the McCain speech, for those who think an African American can't run the best nation on this earth, to you I say good luck. Good luck cause your booing and your hatred isn't going to stop him. It will fall on deaf ears as we, the people who have believed in change from day one know, that a change is gonna come. Sure, you will be along for the ride, but just remember this time, remember you emotions as you see the change happening, remember the boos that utter out your lips, remember how the change impacted your life.

I HOPE you can get over your hatred.
